Positively distractible

So I managed one blog post before getting caught up in the crazy busy business of raising crazy children. Not only did I seemingly not have the time, I got so wrapped up in the day-to-day efforts of teeth-brushing, snack-making, dressing-encouragement, tidying-up-after-all-the-drawers-in-the-house-are-pulled-out, I didn’t even remember I’d decided to start back into writing this blog. Truth be told, I didn’t even remember I had a blog, until my daughter asked me out of the blue today “what’s a blog?”. Maybe it’s ADHD, I do the same thing when trying to cook, wandering away to do something else and forgetting I’m doing anything in the kitchen at all. Everything I cook gets burnt or goes cold. And gardening more often than not involves the plants dying (because I forget to water them) or drowning (because I forget I left the hose running). Anyway, I digress. The point I was making is that I was back, I forgot I was back, but then I remembered so now I’m back again. Until I forget again. So much energy and enthusiasm to throw at the world, so little follow through once something else comes along to grab attention. I’m not sure I mind that much though. It’s satisfying to get caught up on the thing your caught up on. I spent the last two days hooked on a jigsaw, and had to get the kids to literally drag me away when it was time to do something else, which makes me understand more where they’re coming from when I’m trying to get them to move on from LEGO to school. Once I get my mind focussed on something, it’ll happen, and fast. I just need to learn not to beat myself up so hard when my mind loses focus and procrastination, resentment and forgetfulness take over.
